What We Do
Midwestern University hosts two doctoral level APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Programs (Psy.D.) in Glendale, Arizona and Downers Grove, Illinois. The practitioner-scholar based programs provide academic, clinical and research-focused training experiences to prepare students for careers in the practice of Clinical Psychology. Our evidence-based programs center on your development as a competent, thoughtful and caring clinical psychologist.
The Clinical Psychology Program is a four to five year, full-time, year round program. Students typically complete three to four years of coursework and part-time clinical training experiences at training locations throughout the diverse Chicago and Phoenix metropolitan areas, followed by one year of full-time internship at training sites throughout the country. All students also complete a dissertation in an area of their own interest. The Program emphasizes a student-focused approach through small class sizes, a low student-to-faculty ratio, and a mentor-student model.
Our caring faculty experts have experience and expertise in a wide variety of clinical areas and provide you with the essential diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative skills you need to become a clinical psychologist. The curriculum focuses on the development of professional skills in the nine profession wide competencies outlined by the American Psychological Association. Specialized concentrations in Neuropsychology (AZ only), Child and Adolescent Psychology (IL only) and Health Psychology (both campuses) are also available for interested students. Students interested in academic careers may also elect to participate in an Advanced Teaching Mentorship program.
The graduate healthcare focus of Midwestern University provides students with opportunities for clinical and research collaboration across healthcare disciplines and prepares you to work as part of the healthcare team providing compassionate care to diverse individuals and groups.
